UK-Nigeria Tech Hub kick-starts Future Females Business School Programme to support 50 Nigerian female entrepreneurs to grow their tech-based businesses.

The UK Nigeria Tech Hub, in partnership with Future Females has launched its Future Females Business School Programme to support 50 Nigerian female entrepreneurs over the next 3 months to increase the capacity of their enterprises to scale and become more sustainable.

Honey Ogundeyi, Country Director of the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub highlighted that the aim of the programme is: “to support gender inclusive economic growth with a specific focus on empowering women with the skills and connections to overcome the existing digital gender gap”

On 7 October 2020, just within 2 days of opening applications, over 200 applications were received and till date, 1609 applications were received and from this number of applications,100 applicants were invited for an interview.

Commenting on this, Lauren Dallas, Co-Founder of Future Females stated: “We were impressed by organic traction and the number of applications we received. We received 500+ applications just within the first week, proving to us that there is a great need and gap for the support of tech female entrepreneurs in Nigeria and we are excited to partner with the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub to extend this programme to the early-stage female entrepreneurs in Nigeria, to support our mission of empowering African female entrepreneurs to build world-class businesses, and stand proud and take up space on global digital & physical stages.” 

From the pool of a 100 interviewed candidates, the top 50 candidates with tech enabled businesses were selected for the programme spanning across regions including North-East (8); South-South (3); South-East (3) and South-West (36).

Some of the businesses that were selected to be in the programme are:

  1. Olufayotomi Oki, Founder of Fresh to Dommot. Fresh to Dommot is an on-demand grocery delivery service that bridges the gap between the open markets that are common in Africa and the home shopper ( www.freshtodommot.com).
  2. Jadesola Opawumi, Founder of  Payqart. Payqart is a digital platform that connects merchants and lenders to offer shoppers financing through a network of prime and subprime lenders ( www.payqart.com).
  3. Oyetoun Roberts, Founder of  HR On Wheels. HR On Wheels exists to bridge the skills gap among job seekers and provide affordable adequate business support and tools for small businesses using technology (www.hronwheels.ng).
  4. Adebisi Borokinni, Founder of  Myyinvest. Myyinvest is a property technology company that seeks to drive investment across Africa at a pocket-friendly price in a seamless way ( www.myyinvest.com).
  5. Susanne Ogunleye, Founder of Jasmine Ultra Blue Solutions.  Jasmine Ultra Blue Solutions uses international best practices in proffering customized solutions to meet the unique needs of its Clients across every sphere and sector from Individuals to Families to Corporations (www.jasmineultrabluesolutions.com).
  6. Sheba Gabrie, Founder of  Scoutan. Scoutan is set up to connect Job seekers with Employers through 2 weeks – 1 month trial with an allowance (Scoutan.com).
  7. Titilola Abejirin, Founder of The Silver Castle. The Silver Castle is an online gift registry, a platform that enables celebrants/gift receivers to communicate their gift preferences to friends and family (www.silvercastle.co).
  8. Busola Boyle-Komolafe, Founder of Versa Research. Versa Research is a boutique research firm that gathers data on the market, marketing, social, and consumer trend (www.versa-research.com).

This virtual accelerator programme will cover 10 actionable modules equipping participants with entrepreneurial skills and best practices needed to grow their tech-based businesses. Throughout the duration of the programme, entrepreneurs will also have access to weekly coaching sessions with industry experts and guest feature masterclasses.

Who is UK-Nigeria Tech Hub?

The UK-Nigeria Tech Hub has been established as part of the UK’s Digital Access Programme (DAP), a UK Government Prosperity Fund initiative. The UK-Nigeria Tech Hub aims to develop a stronger Nigerian digital ecosystem through the development of skills, entrepreneurship and business partnerships.
